Sentence adjustment.

Barssie Avocats assists many convicted persons in applying for sentence adjustments and the merging of sentences, in order to support a gradual return to freedom and optimise the way sentences are served. The aim of these proceedings is to adapt the sentence to the convicted person’s personal and criminal situation, taking into account their background, rehabilitation efforts and the guarantees they can offer. An effective defence before the sentence enforcement courts is essential to maximise the chances of obtaining more lenient conditions for serving the sentence.

The firm regularly appears before the sentence enforcement judge (JAP), who can grant measures such as parole, electronic tagging, day release or suspension of sentence on medical grounds. It also assists clients before the sentence enforcement court (TAP), particularly in long-sentence cases where this court must rule on early release or a change in how the sentence is served. The firm also pleads before the sentence enforcement appeals chamber (CHAP), which hears appeals against sentence adjustment decisions.
