Fees and legal aid
The cost of a criminal defence is often a concern, especially in an emergency. Here is how the firm sets its fees, and what support may cover them.

A written fee agreement
For each case, the firm draws up a fee agreement setting out in advance the amount or method of calculating fees and expenses. Nothing is charged without your consent.
How fees are calculated
- Fixed fee per stage of the proceedings: police custody, hearing before the court, application for release, appeal. This is the most common method in criminal matters, as it gives visibility.
- Time spent, on an hourly rate basis, for long cases or cases whose scope is hard to predict (white-collar crime, judicial investigations).
- An additional success fee may be agreed, within the limits allowed by professional rules.
Payment in instalments can be arranged.
Legal aid
Depending on your income, the French State may cover all or part of your legal fees (aide juridictionnelle). The income thresholds are revised every year; a simulator is available on justice.fr. Some situations give entitlement to legal aid regardless of income, in particular for victims of the most serious crimes.
The firm will tell you from the first contact whether your situation qualifies for legal aid and how it can act.
Legal expenses insurance
Your home, car, bank card or specific insurance policy may include legal expenses cover that reimburses part of the fees. Check your policies: you remain free to choose your lawyer.
In an emergency
In police custody or for an immediate trial, you may ask for a duty lawyer. You can also contact the firm directly: it is available 24/7.
